Discover our unique rooms

BestStart Aidanfield is a specially designed early learning centre in a safe and quiet street in Halswell. We have a cosy and nurturing environment with lots of space for the children to learn and play.

Our outdoor area is very large, allowing us to provide a range of experiences including obstacle courses which help develop gross motor skills, balancing and hand-eye coordination. We are also very fortunate to have a very large sandpit that the children enjoy all types of activates in - baking, making tracks for the trucks, making sandcastles and their favourite activity - water play! We are lucky to have a park and reserve next door that we can take our tamariki too.

Our infant space is a warm, safe, and stimulating environment where your tamariki can explore at their own pace, building confidence as they grow. We focus on respectful relationships and open communication, ensuring both you and your child feel connected and supported. Our daily routine is designed to nurture your child’s individual needs, providing continuity from home to the centre. Tamariki are encouraged to explore and experiment in their own time, with routines from home seamlessly integrated into their day, thanks to our close collaboration with whānau.

Our Toddler room is a vibrant and active space where tamariki eagerly explore both indoors and outdoors. Building on the routine from the Kiwi room, children grow more confident and self-aware, taking ownership of their learning. We share an open playground with the Kea room, fostering tuakana/teina relationships where older and younger children learn from each other.

In this environment, tamariki build strong relationships with their peers through engaging and exploring their surroundings. Our kaiako work closely with whānau to nurture and develop each child’s interests by offering activities and experiences that encourage exploration, growth, and fun. We're dedicated to creating a stimulating environment that meets the individual needs of both tamariki and whānau.

In this stage, we continue to support and guide tamariki with our Set for School program, where they build on self-regulation, self-help skills, and confidence, becoming confident and capable learners. Children develop essential knowledge and skills to prepare them for school, with their interests nurtured and extended through our carefully planned environment and experiences tailored to their individual goals.

We encourage curiosity, prompting tamariki to ask questions and equipping them with the tools to find their own answers through inquiry-based learning and projects. Our unique Be School Ready program ensures tamariki develop the skills needed for a smooth transition to school. We maintain strong relationships with surrounding schools and organize regular visits to help familiarise them with the school environment.
