BestStart Aidanfield is a specially designed early learning centre in a safe and quiet street in Halswell. We have a cosy and nurturing environment with lots of space for the children to learn and play.
We know that your child will learn best through working, talking and playing together with others, building relationships with people, places and things within the centre and the wider community. Your child will see themself as a capable and competent learner who can make their own decisions through the provision of open learning opportunities.
The great outdoors - Our outdoor area is very large, allowing us to provide a range of experiences including obstacle courses which help develop gross motor skills, balancing and hand-eye coordination. We are also very fortunate to have a very large sandpit that the children enjoy all types of activates in - baking, making tracks for the trucks, making sandcastles and their favourite activity - water play! We are lucky to have a park and reserve next door that we can take our tamariki too.
Healthy food - At BestStart Aidanfield we provide yummy and healthy morning and afternoon teas as well as fantastic cooked lunches provided by our onsite cook who has been working with management to provide a healthy and nutritious menu for all the centres within the company.
Relationships with Whanau (Whanaungatanga) – We as Kaiako understand that parents and whanau are the most important people in their life. We respect parents as first teachers and work with you to guide your child through their learning journey. Therefore, we take pride in communication and consultation with our Whanau, collaborating to ensure we are providing a home-like, secure, loving and developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum. As a centre we ensure that we take time to celebrate each and every milestone that our tamariki achieve.
Inclusion – As Kaiako we believe in Cultural Appreciation. As a team we celebrate such events as Chinese New Year, Matariki and Language Weeks within our centre. We also take part in nationwide events such as raising money for Plunket and the Cancer Society.
Community Involvement - We as a team believe it is important to be a part of our community. Our kaiako (teachers) support our parents and tamariki with transition to school, where the kaiako organise visits to our local schools. We also complete other adventures around our surrounding neighbourhood so that our tamariki learn an appreciation for their wider environment.
Empowerment - “the process of becoming stronger and more confident”. As kaiako we empower and support our children to learn to work within rules and expectations. Through empowerment and praise our children feel happy and comfortable, allowing them to make choices in which makes them feel independent, builds resilience, self-respect and respect for others.
Kiwi Room – This is a safe, warm and stimulating environment for our infants. Your tamariki will have the space to explore at their own pace, developing confidence as they go. We base our practice around respectful relationships and communication so that you and your child feel connected. Our daily routine is based around nurturing and supporting your individual child and enabling continuity from home to the centre.
Pukeko Room – We share an open playground with the Kea room, embracing in tuakana/teina relationships. This is where older and younger children learn from each other. Our Toddler room is a fantastic place for our children to build relationships with their peers by engaging and exploring their environment. Our Kaiako work with and alongside Whanau to extend and develop our tamiriki interests. This is completed through providing activities and experiences that allow the tamariki to explore and grow and having fun at the same time. We’re committed to providing a stimulating environment based on individual needs of our tamariki and whanau.
Kea Room – Children develop the essential knowledge and skills to support them as they prepare for school. Your child’s interests will be sustained and extended through our environment and experiences that are planned to meet their individual goals. We encourage your child to ask questions, and provide them with the tools to find their own answers through inquiry-based learning and projects. Our unique Be School Ready programme helps our tamariki develop the skills needed for transition to school. We have relationships with our surrounding schools, and organise regular school visits to them.
Please don’t hesitate to call in for a visit any time; we love to show people around our centre. We look forward to meeting you in the near future.
