BestStart is one of NZ's leading early childcare providers. BestStart Avondale in Wolverton Street, Avondale, provides affordable, high-quality education and award-winning childcare for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

At BestStart Avondale, we're a home away from home for you and your tamariki!

We take pride in fostering positive relationships with whānau from diverse cultures, integrating them into our centre programmes, cultural celebrations, and community events. Our supportive and enriching learning environment is based on respect, responsibility, and community, encouraging exploration and discovery. Through our child-led curriculum, every child embarks on an individual learning journey supported by our dedicated Centre Manager and passionate teachers.

Situated on Wolverton Street, close to New Lynn Train Station and the South Western Motorway, BestStart Avondale offers easy access for families. Many of our tamariki move on to local schools like Blockhouse Bay, New Windsor, Chaucer, and New Lynn Primary Schools, making our centre an integral part of the community.

We have three rooms designed to meet the developmental stages of each child. From our cosy Manawa Nursery for infants to the dynamic Rewa Rewa room for toddlers, and the engaging Waitemata room for preschoolers, each space is tailored to foster growth, exploration, and learning. Our Set for School programme ensures that families know what to expect for their children's transition to the next phase of their learning journey. Through a play-based curriculum, our programme seamlessly integrates learning that aligns to the NZ school curriculum, including literacy, maths, and science. Our BestStart environments are thoughtfully arranged to foster greater independence and support children in developing essential self-help and socio-emotional skills needed for school readiness.

kind words from our parents

My Daughter started her when she was 8mth old. She had a great time playing and socializing with others including the teachers and friends. She has learnt to be independent and confidently trying new experiences. I was able to witness the upgrades being done on the playgrounds and resources being topped up and renewed. Teachers were caring and professional. overall a good centre.

Lovely to see all tamariki rekindling their friendships. The need for social connection for Aria feels very reassuring for her. It's very therapeutic listening to Aria talk about what she has been up to at daycare with her friends, which is, great for her psychosocial learning development.

Thank you so much Mahima for these pics. How blessed we are to have all of you- super talented teachers by Aaria’s side in her early childhood . We feel definitely blessed. Thank you for your efforts especially in isolation period.

My whanau and I would love to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Monika for her unwavering support and care. On my return to work my son began his BestStart Avondale journey in February 2018, he was 6 months old. As first-time parents we were so nervous about leaving our son however, Monika supported and eased us into it by providing us with lots of information and excellent introductions to his teachers/kaiako. She carefully covered all the important information, making sure we understood and shared with us how our son's nutritional, educational, emotional and playtime needs would be met.

Over the past two years, Monika has gone above and beyond her role to help us first-time parents navigate our way through our son’s different learning stages, some of which have been quite tricky however, she was always there to offer guidance, warmth, and a genuine understanding. offer guidance, warmth, and a genuine understanding. Monika always welcomes our whanau like we are part of her own family and this has been reflected in the many invitations to special whanau events where we have been able to meet many of the other parents who share in our love for Monika and the BestStart Avondale team.

I’m happy to see how Hail and Hani’s development is progressing. Teachers really do a great job in bringing them up to be independent. The first thing I realise is that they start making friends, talk a lot, and they are happy to be at school. No drama scenes; they listen and understand the teachers’ words. And when they are at home, I can see that they are trying to apply independent learning from school, i.e. washing hands and mouths and wearing pants on their own. Overall I can see both my sons are doing great and happy with the school, teachers and friends. Thank you for your endless support, passion and love towards all the kids at BestStart. Keep up the good work.
