At BestStart Cashmere, together with kindness we grow.

BestStart Cashmere provides an exceptional educational and childcare experience for children of all ages and their whānau.

Our centre combines experience, knowledge, and endless passion to deliver the highest quality learning outcomes for babies, toddlers, and young children.

We nurture kaitiakitanga, encourage self-expression, and support children to care for the environment through sustainability practices. Through collective play and movement, tamariki build relationships, confidence, and wellbeing while exploring the world around them.

What makes us special?

We feature a large playground and a peaceful hidden garden, with three interconnected classrooms set back from the road for a calm, safe learning environment. Our teaching is grounded in kindness, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga, supported by a strong, collaborative teaching team. We emphasise social and emotional competencies, relationships, and sustainability—reflecting our Sustainability Award and our belief in the environment as the third teacher.

Hidden Garden - nurturing caring for it intentionally, harvesting food-Kaitiakitanga is visible when children actively care for the land, water, plants, and animals, and learn that they are guardians of the environment.

Excursion's: within the local community and to local schools provide children with valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom. These outings allow them to engage with their surroundings, connect with the wider community, and participate in special cultural experiences, such as Kapa Haka, which support their social, cultural, and educational development.

Partnerships with the local school, children experience real-life ways of caring for and protecting the environment, demonstrating kaitiakitanga in everyday practice. Strong connections with our local schools provide continuity as children transition from the centre to school. Opawāho prep room - Eel - homestay programme -connects children with local species like the Longfin eel, which are important in Aotearoa.

Kind words from parents

"Really enjoying to be a Cashemere BestStart family. Great teachers, safe enviroment and children family culture support. Also would mention fruits for parents every morning - so kind :)"
Eva
"Such an incredible nursery for our one year old. There is so much love and experience; we feel very supported having just moved to the city."
Hayley
"The teachers are wonderful. No matter what age the children are, they know them all by name. They take great care in giving the younger children plenty of time, support and space to get used to the next room, so when they move up they are comfortable with the new teachers, space and other children. They create great interest in each child and know how to help and include everyone."
