At BestStart Foxton Beach Kindy we grow young kaitiaki of the land!

At BestStart Foxton Beach Kindy children learn through the natural environment and develop an appreciation for nature which empowers them to become guardians of the land and community they live in! We believe the best learning happens through relationships and connections, and we are blessed with small group sizes, so children and families can all get to know one another and teachers can really connect on a deeper level with whanau and tamariki to achieve the best learning outcomes!

We are located right by Manawatu Estuary and Foxton Beach and we love our beach lifestyle. We often go off for walks into the pine forest and sand dunes to investigate the bird life we have here, and to gather or collect any interesting discoveries. The children have ‘investigation back packs’ to take when we go exploring. These include clip boards, pencils, specimen jars and magnifying glasses to explore and investigate.

We continue learning through nature at our centre too, we are on a journey to become more sustainable through growing some of our own crops, harvesting harakeke and using our foraged resources in our day to day activities. 

Our Team

Our team is open and supportive of one another. Although we are all of varied ages and stages in our careers we share a passion for educating tamariki and we have a strong interest in allowing nature and natural environments playing a part in learning for the children at our centre. We also all believe in following childrens interests.

Our Spaces

Influenced by the beach community surrounding us we have a beautiful natural environment including vegetable gardens, fruit trees, harakeke and elements of nature in all of our classrooms. We also have a new purpose-built playground for the children to explore.

The overall feel of the centre is so welcoming and has the feel that we are all part of one big whanau. I know that when I leave my child that they are not just physically cared for but nurtured as she would be at home.
