At BestStart Howick, we have a spacious outdoor play area that nurtures children’s physical development and natural curiosity. Our outdoor area is an extension of the classroom, supporting children’s dexterity and social skills. A beautiful heritage tree provides natural shade and can be climbed, along with our climbing frames. Our bikes, swings, water play area, and creative arts space provide children with a range of activities to help them grow and thrive.

Our mixed aged group helps children understand the importance of tolerance, compassion for others, patience, caring for other, listening and all those key life skills. It’s manaakitanga in action.
When they turn 4, they embark on our ‘Set for School” programme, where daily learning experiences are designed to support our tamariki in their transition to primary school. From literacy and numeracy activities to imaginative play in our family playroom and creative exploration in our construction area, children are encouraged to make their own decisions, experiment, and learn through play. This fosters their ability to plan, develop "working theories," and implement their ideas.
