BestStart Lemon Street early learning centre is nestled on a large section with mature trees and gardens, right on the edge of New Plymouth’s CBD. We are open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm, welcoming children from 3 months to school age. We offer morning and afternoon sessions as well as school day and full day attendance to support your family’s needs.

At BestStart Lemon Street build connections with our families!

At BestStart Lemon Street we believe that when it comes to children "with strong roots, a tree will stand". If we prepare them well and lay down the best roots they will be able to grow tall and stand strong throughout their lives.

Kaitiakatangais important to us. We value respecting our environment, by encouraging tamariki to develop the independence to tidy up after themselves. We value whakawhanaungatanga, establishing strong connections with whānau and tamariki as soon as they step foot in our doors. A sense of belonging andhauora is imperative for tamariki to become competent and confident learners – developing relationships is at the heart of this.  When tamariki leave BestStart Lemon Street, we strive for tamariki to have developed resilience, confidence in themselves and who they are, independence, responsibility and self-help skills.

In our centre everyone's strengths are acknowledged, encouraged and cherished. This helps everyone feel at ease, accepted and safe. From strong relationships our children grow their confidence to explore and discover the world around them.

Our Team

We are new, diverse teaching team, all from different parts of New Zealand. We all love gardening and find it important that we can share a laugh and have a sense of humour. But one of the most important things to us all is family, which why we endeavor to build strong connections with our centre families and value family involvement in children's learning.

What We Offer

  • Fresh, healthy, nutritious meals and snacks provided throughout the day
  • 20 hours free for 3-5 year olds and WINZ subsidies available* if required
  • Experienced tight-knit team of passionate teachers
  • Get Set for School programme

Our Spaces

We have a homely, warm and welcoming environment with a kiwi big backyard and peaceful atmosphere where children learn about life and the world around them. Teachers, children, families and the community are welcomed as if it were their home. We want our centre to be a place that everyone is comfortable which helps us in creating strong relationships that build emotional connections, security, and trust.  We have three aged-based classrooms that meet the changing needs of our tamariki as they grow.

I love the staff! They’re all very friendly and approachable. The centre is always clean and warm. My child always comes home happy and is excited to go to daycare.

Teachers team work and welcoming attitude make our children feel really safe and secure as well as parents. Very grateful for them.
