BestStart Parklands offers quality education and care for children aged from 3 months to 6. years old. We have large outdoor areas in both the preschool and nursery that provide plenty of space for children to develop their gross motor skills in a natural environment.

Belonging, Being, Becoming Me!

A child from even before birth is linked to family, community, culture and our place - Aotearoa. Through these key relationships in the lives of our tamariki, a child's development and learning takes place.

Belonging is important for tamariki when developing their own identity, this helps to develop a sense of connection.

Being is about children expressing themselves as individuals and developing their personality, culture, and learning.

Becoming is about our tamariki learning and growing, allowing them to understand and build on skills and relationships, and become an active member of society.

In our friendly, home-like centre value parent/whanau involvement and regularly provide social opportunities for you to stay and play. We provide healthy morning and afternoon snacks which the children often help to make themselves, providing learning opportunities in maths, literacy, numeracy, turn taking and the opportunity to develop social skills. They also develop their knowledge of healthy and nutritious foods.

We have recently developed strong relationships with fellow kūra in the community where tuakana teina relationships are being formed, with the older teaching the younger while coming to visit with fun activities. We believe our tamariki also come out of this teaching the older tamariki some things too!

We celebrate many special events at BestStart Parklands, both culturally and for fun. Some of the exciting events you will see in our centre are Plunket week, Easter weekend festivities, Matariki, St Patricks day, Halloween, scooter/bike weeks, NZ Sign Language week, Te wiki o te reo Maori, Waitangi Day, Chinese New Year and so much more.

Our Team

We are a small, friendly team are qualified and experienced with each teacher bringing their own unique skills to the table. With regular professional development and learning from one another we are consistently upskilling to provide the best possible care and education to our BestStart Parklands family. We are passionate about our Set for School programme, setting up our oldest tamariki for success for Primary School, and about our younger tamariki growing their independence.

Straight away I could tell that Parklands had a home-like feel. As soon as I met the teachers in the nursery, Maryse and Nikki, I felt at ease. They are both knowledgeable and have both been at the centre for years, which is also really great to know. I feel so confident leaving my baby in their care, knowing they will follow my routine from home and follow her cues when required also.

My son has been in the nursery at BestStart Parklands since he was 6 months old, he is now almost two years old! i felt at ease from the first transition visit onward. I have developed a great relationship with Jo and Steph, and i know my son is in the best of care. They follow his cues and fill me in daily on what he has been doing, and what important parts of his day have changed if needed eg. a sleep a bit shorter than usual, and any other important information. I love that the room is natural and bright and there is many open ended resources and heuristic resources which I love and have at home too.

We have been involved with the centre now for 5 and a half years with both of our boys coming through from the Nursery to Preschool. With a great team of teachers our very active boys have been provided opportunities to explore and learn in a safe and supportive environment. They have been able to develop great relationships with the teachers as well as creating friendships that have gone above and beyond the centre. We are very grateful for all the support our boys have developed over the years and would definitely recommend BestStart Parklands.

We love Beststart Parklands! Our son started in the nursery when he was 4 months old, he's almost 4 now and his sister is currently in the nursery. From day one we have been made to feel welcome and that our children are in safe hands. Both our children have formed amazing friendships with other children and bonds with the teachers. We really appreciate how the teachers work with us, as parents to focus on areas of development that are important to us and provide our children with experiences/activities that tie in with their current areas of interest.

Logan has been with BestStart Parklands since he was 12 months old and now he is about to graduate from preschool. I absolutely love the staff and all that they do. The activities they do are so crafty and creative and Logan has learnt so much during his time here. The commitment to tamariki and whanau during this he lockdown was astonishing and made life a lot easier during this time especially when they all had families and children to look after as well. Teachers will always be teachers no matter where they are!

My boy has now attended two Pre School centres in his three years of life, BestStart Parklands has been the best move for him. Lots of boys to hang and play with, great teachers who really care about their tamariki and their learning. Always open to feedback and suggestions. It truly is an awesome little centre.

We moved to a new house last year and moved our son to Parklands BestStart and have not looked back. The staff there are SO friendly, amazing, and attentive. We get thorough updates daily, and he often does not want to leave in the afternoons. We really feel like part of their whanau and community, and our son comes home exhausted daily because he is kept so busy and entertained. This is how daycare should be!
