Our Team
What sets us apart at BestStart Styx Mill is our team of passionate kaiako
who teach from the heart. Each member of our team is dedicated to creating an
environment that goes beyond traditional education – we welcome children into
our Styx Mill family. Our teachers are not only skilled professionals but
caring mentors who understand the importance of emotional well-being and a
sense of belonging in a child's developmental journey.

Our Spaces
At BestStart Styx Mill, we prioritize individualized care and attention,
with a license for 66 children, including a special focus on the unique needs
of 16 children under the age of 2. Our center boasts three thoughtfully
designed classrooms, each catering to specific developmental stages. Kakano,
our nurturing nursery, provides a safe haven for infants up to 2 years old.
Tipu, our engaging preschool environment, supports children up to around 3.5
years, fostering curiosity and early social skills. Finally, Pihinga, our
vibrant prep school, caters to children over 3.5, preparing them for the
exciting journey ahead in their educational endeavors.
Kākano room
3 months - 2 years
We cater for children from 3 months to 2 years, we offer a inviting indoor area with a large outside area where tamariki are supported and nurtured by a team of teachers. In our Kākano room your infant or toddler will be provided with a range of resources and support to develop independence, build on their physical skills, learn how to positively interact with others and learn both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. All tamariki work to strengthen their independence for self-help skills. Routines are the heart of the room for the tamariki.
Tipu Room
2 years - 3.5 years
We cater for children age 2 years to 3.5 years, we continue to strengthen the tamariki independence as well as support their individual interests and educational needs. We pride ourselves on flexibility and meeting each child's needs. Our programme also offers a range of regular experiences in music, art, group times, story times and much more. Our teachers do more than just care for your child, they focus on how to support their development and learning.
Pihanga Room
3.5 years - 6 years old
We cater for children aged 3.5 to 6 year olds, within this room we continue to celebrate your child on their learning journey. The tamariki help make up our programme on a daily basis as we look at what they are interested in learning about and support them on their adventure to learn. We work with families and children to make sure the process to school is smooth for all involved, this is supported by our Set for School initiative.
