BestStart Te Awamutu early learning centre is open weekdays from 7.30am to 5.30pm, only closing for public holidays. We have two specialised learning areas to support the changing developmental needs of our tamariki as they grow as well as a project room for indepth inquiry learning.
At BestStart Te Awamutu we nurture the communities youngest!
We nurture our communities youngest, supporting them in their growth and allowing each child to blossom in their own unique way.
Here at BestStart Te Awamutu We believe the community plays an integral part of our early childhood centre and curriculum. We foster reciprocal relationships through participating in excursions and nurturing relationships with our local community organisations.
At our centre you will find a welcoming, warm atmosphere where whānau and the community play an important part in centre life. We love to celebrate all the cultures and acknowledge their importance. From Matariki celebrations to movie nights, visits from our local police to exploring at the park, we never miss an opportunity to make connections that help our children grow strong and proud of who they are and where they are from.
Our tamariki are nurtured as they make connections and establish their roots, getting ready for learning. In partnership with whānau, we tend to their needs, embracing their uniqueness and the diversity they bring. Our families have so much to offer and we embrace their skills and wisdom, incorporating their insights and knowledge into our learning programme.
Our Team
At our centre we believe that the role of the teacher is to excite the natural curiosity of children.
We are a small but close team with each teacher bringing their own unique skills to the table. Being able to communicate with new families and in home languages is important to us and we are lucky to have a teacher from China, fluent in Mandarin and a teacher from the Philippines who is fluent int Filipino, Cebuano and Waray Waray.
With regular professional development and learning from one another we are consistently upskilling to provide the best possible care and education to our BestStart Te Awamutu family.

Our Spaces
BestStart Te Awamutu is a well-established early childhood education centre with two specialised learning areas, that are developmentally appropriate and designed to inspire and encourage our learner's exploration through the 16 areas of play.
Our Seedlings Room
Under 2 years old
Walking into this room you will notice a great indoor-outdoor flow, and wide range of rich sensory activities that invite our babies to explore. There are also two separate sleep rooms to make catering to different sleep routines easy.
Through primary caregiving, our youngest tamariki are able to flourish and grow through individualised care as well as a safe and nurturing space. Through the concept of ā tōna wā, in their own time, we follow each individual child as they master milestones, make discoveries and build relationships as they grow into confident and curious learners.
Our Sprouts Room
Over 2 years old
Our Sprouts room has a play based curriculum where tamariki are empowered to follow their interests and engage in a variety of experiences aimed towards problem-solving, making connections with others and developing their working theories.
This environment is flexible and the team are responsive to the different needs of each step of development. Although children may be toddlers or almost ready for school, they are able to learn from one another.
For our oldest tamariki we are preparing them for school and set more specific goals to support their development as they engage curiously in their interests. The environment and daily rhythm provides and facilitates opportunities to empower the children to become lifelong learners.
Our Blossoming Room
The Preschool room is where we take a project-based approach to learning, in which the tamariki are encouraged to learn through exploration, research and investigation of the world around them.
We are lucky to have this separate room which give us the space and freedom to work together.
It’s a safe, healthy and stimulating environment where children’s play is supported and extended with meaningful experiences for tamariki to develop holistically, growing into confident and competent learners ready for their future.
