Drop into BestStart Totara Street and you will be warmly welcomed by one of our dedicated staff and all our smiling tamariki. As you walk into our beautiful sun filled learning environments you will meet the rest of our dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable teaching team and support staff.

At BestStart Totara we provide a secure space for our not yet moving tamariki. We have implemented the free movement philosophy as this is something we feel strongly about. We believe the children will meet their developmental milestones in their own time.

For our older children we have implemented a programme that supports them to develop at their own pace. We entice exploration and create individual plans that support our children to ensure the best possible learning outcomes are occurring for them.

We recognise that tamariki learn though play and support their development and learning by implementing intentional teaching. Our Set for School initiative ensures all children are surrounded by literacy and numeracy in all areas of their play so they are ready for life long learning.

Our Team

Our teaching team is full of experienced, passionate teachers who thrive on supporting tamariki to achieve milestones and develop in all areas of their lives. We believe teaching is a vocation and all our teachers have followed their calling to work alongside children.

Just wanted to share a quick thank you, we are loving the new Storypark, it’s awesome seeing some of the updates of what my son is getting up to. He’s loving his new full time hours and we appreciate all you have done and are doing for us.

The staff knew and know our kids abilities and strengths and used these to develop their learning in such fun ways! Our kids were always happy to go to in the morning and always full of stories at home time. It meant a lot that the teachers took and take an interest in their lives at home and bring these into the centre to create a real sense of belonging for our kids. The teachers at TopKids Totara have formed relationships with our kids that even when they leave they still have a sense of belonging of the TopKids family as it was a big part of their lives.

I would love to commend the team at BestStart Totara Street in Taupo. Aside from being fantastic educators, which they all are, they frequently go above and beyond for the children and parents who attend the centre. My personal experience with this center has been one of such kindness, care and compassion. A special mention to Jen and Lou, who are just wonderful. You should be so proud to have all these fantastic people working under the BestStart name.

Before starting with BestStart Totara Street my son was in hime-based care. He would cry all the time and often end in me having to pick him up. My son started at Totara Street about 6mths ago and it has been such an amazing experience for us all. The staff are so friendly and caring and have been so incredible at settling our son and helping him feel like he belongs. My son loves his kindy and we have seen huge growth in his personality and confidence. My son now cries on the weekend because he wasnts to go to kindy! Big ups to the amazing team.

You guys are the best. When we started our daughter was shy and not talking much and now she can't stop. She is telling me every day how wonderful the teachers are and her freinds as well. We are going to miss you. Thanks for taking care of our daughter while her dad and I worked. We appreciate that a lot. You are stunning.

Everybody is so warm and welcoming. They keep me informed with my son and his activities throughout the day. I love how they capture special moments like his first time painting. They have photos on the wall which gives a nice family feel.
