Today we had a very meaningful and special celebration with the special ladies of our lives. We invited our mothers, nanas and aunties to spend the morning with our tamariki. The celebration was officially opened with a kapa haka performance of Himene’s whanau Mum Chelsea, Brother Paulie and sisters Josephine and Pourarangi. May shared her message on kindness and how we have started our peace education amongst our tamariki.  As we also celebrate Pink Shirt Day, we have created a kindness tree that fluorishes with flowers every time we show kindness to others. Today also marks the day where we stand together as one learning community against bullying and racism. May also mentioned how our mothers are the first people and the main source of these seeds of kindness amongst us.

The children then serenaded our guests with their song and sign language performance. They sang Te Aroha, which incidentally was a song composed by Himene’s koro (Chelsea’s father), Skidamarink and You Are My Sunshine.

Alana Pere visited us and talked about the Energise Programme where it aims to support parents and teachers in supporting children’s wellbeing through better nutrition, active movement and understanding of brain development.
We then shared a yummy and filling kai to cap the morning.

Thank you to all our wonderful and lovely ladies and whanau for gracing us with this meaningful and special celebration.
