This month, we had an absolute blast getting creative, celebrating different cultures and moving our bodies! We structured our days around hands-on activities to make sure we were learning through active play and exploration. Here is a look at what we did.
We Grew Our Own Plants
We started our month by diving into the magic of germination because we wanted to see exactly how a tiny seed turns into a living, growing plant.
We set up a little nursery using recycled cups and built the seed observation station together. We carefully scooped soil into the cups, planted our seeds and gave them just the right amount of water.
To understand the process while we waited for our seeds to sprout, we worked on a timeline. We gathered around the table to arrange illustration cards showing the plant life cycle, from a resting seed all the way to a blooming flower. We learned that growing takes a lot of patience!
We Celebrated India's Independence Day
We love exploring the diverse world around us, so we took some time this month to celebrate India's Independence Day with lots of colour and teamwork.
We learned about the vibrant colours of the Indian flag – saffron, white and green. Then, we worked as a team to decorate a large map of India using these colours. We practised our fine motor skills and cooperation by carefully placing our pieces to create a beautiful tricolour mosaic.
We also tasted delicious Indian cuisine, including poori and chickpea and potato curry.
We Jumped into Physical Development
We couldn't let the month go by without burning off some energy and working on our gross motor skills! Getting outside and moving is a huge part of how we learn to coordinate our bodies.
We headed out to the grass and set up an obstacle course using bright orange cones and colourful hula hoops. We jumped in and out of the hoops to build our balance and core strength, and we tested our agility as we carefully navigated around the cones.
We had so much fun moving our bodies and challenging ourselves.
