BestStart Epsom is a cosy, small early learning centre, located near the Newmarket, Epsom and Remuera shopping centres, just moments from the Southern Motorway. We provide quality education and care for children from 3 months up until they go to school. We welcome all families to come in for a visit when you’re in the neighbourhood!

Nurturing curious minds

At BestStart Epsom we know children have an innate desire for curiosity and exploration. It is this natural curiosity that encourages children to explore, question, and wonder, and by doing so they learn. They are learning about themselves, about their peers and the world around them. Some want to explore with their minds while others explore in more physical ways. We provide engaging and rich learning experiences that nurture this curiosity at every age and stage of your child's development. 

Our Kowhai Room is a calm, nurturing space for our youngest learners. We develop loving, responsive relationships with our children (tamariki) and our practice in this room respects children’s autonomy, competence and capabilities. The team take the time to understand each child’s needs which allows the child’s care routines to be supported and their interests stimulated through many fun and exciting activities.  Developing into curious and bright toddlers, the teachers provide stimulation and sensory activities suited to each child’s age and stage. While it may look like play. children are busy building social skills so they understand how their world works alongside others.  The teaching team plan, support and educate our curious group through an individual focus to allow children to grow and learn at their own pace.

Our Pohutukawa Room turns terrific toddlers into competent, school-ready discoverers.  Working in groups on projects, our incredible preschoolers are becoming their own people, and discovering their own interests. Our Be School Ready initiative is carefully designed to support children’s next big learning step when they move to primary school. We support parents and children as they develop the skills and attitudes for being a lifelong learner.  We connect with them regularly to ensure children are familiar with staff and the transition to school is streamlined.

Our success in nurturing curious minds comes from children, families and teachers working together. Using NZ’s curriculum Te whāariki guides the children’s learning and development, independence and readiness for school. BestStart Epsom is committed to holistic health and has a Heart Foundation Gold Award for healthy eating.
