Here in the Tuatara Room at Best Start North Road Invercargill – it is so important to us that everyone feels a sense of belonging. This means that not only do we want our tamariki to feel safe, happy and cared for in their space, but we also want their identity and culture to be included and celebrated within our shared space. For this reason, this year we took the time to celebrate

Te Vaiaho o te Gagana Tokelau - Tokelau Language Week at the very end of October, to celebrate the language and culture of one of our own tamariki. We had a great week full of exploring the language together, through greetings, stories, songs, and even some artwork exploring the Tokelaun Flag.

This was a great learning experience for Kaiako and tamariki alike and we have carried with us some stories and songs that have become fast favourites in our day to day routines. This week was a time for us to explore new language and culture together, as well as build upon our knowledge going forward! We hope we will continue to expand on our knowledge of the Tokelau language and culture, as well as many others that we find within our community, helping our tamariki and whanau to build their sense of belonging here with us at Best Start North Road!
