At BestStart North Road, we explore, discover, and learn together — every day.

BestStart North Road is a place where babies, toddlers, and young children aged 3 months to 5 years are known, valued, and celebrated for who they are. Our centre is strongly connected to the North Road community, and children sit at the heart of every decision we make.

We are proud to be a warm, welcoming centre with an open-door approach. Our doors are always open to current whānau, families considering joining us, and members of our wider community. We value the relationships that grow from familiar faces popping in and new connections being formed.

Whanaungatanga guides our practice. Our team builds genuine, respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau, local businesses, and community groups, taking time to understand each family’s story and what matters most to them. These strong partnerships support children to feel safe, confident, and secure in their learning.

Being active members of our community is important to us. Our tamariki enjoy regular excursions to local places such as Nichols Garden Centre, Waikiwi Vets, the Tractor Shop, Galway Street Park, and Thompsons Bush. These experiences help children develop familiarity with their surroundings, a strong sense of belonging, and pride in their home town.

We also value intergenerational and transition-to-school connections. Each term, our children visit Rowena Jackson Rest Home, building meaningful relationships with residents and experiencing the joy of connecting across generations. We also make termly visits to Donovan Primary School, supporting children to become familiar with the school environment and helping ease the transition to school in a positive and confident way.

BestStart North Road is a place where relationships are nurtured, curiosity is encouraged, and children grow with a strong sense of who they are and where they belong.

We had a really good experience with the Set for School programme. Freya enjoyed the work in her homework book and we loved seeing what she was doing — it was a nice way for her to feel prepared and proud as she heads off to school. The once-a-week Set for School time on Fridays in the Pukeko room worked really well for her and felt like a great balance. You did such a beautiful job making Freya’s graduation special. The graduation wall and photos were lovely, and it meant a lot to us as a family to have those moments captured
