A Wonderful Visit to Woolworths Bridge Street

Today our Jones kaiako, tamariki and whānau had a very special community outing to Woolworths Bridge Street.

As soon as we walked through the entrance, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly Woolworths team.

Their lovely and supportive manager, Rebecca, kindly greeted us and guided us through different areas of the supermarket, giving our tamariki such a memorable learning experience. As part of their warm welcome, the Woolworths team had thoughtfully prepared a beautiful fruit platter for our tamariki to enjoy.

They also kindly prepared a goodie bag for each child, which made our tamariki feel very special and excited. We truly appreciated the kindness, care and generosity shown to our group. Our first stop was the bakery department, where Rebecca shared and demonstrated how the bakery team prepares fresh food each day. Our tamariki were very excited to see this process, and some even got to try freshly baked cookies, which was definitely a highlight!

Rebecca then took us to the stocking department and explained how the shelves are filled and organised throughout the day to make sure customers can find what they need. After that, we visited the online shopping department, where we learnt how online orders are prepared and packed for families in the community. Throughout the whole visit, our tamariki and whānau were fully engaged and really enjoyed the experience.

Our tamariki learnt so much about how a supermarket works behind the scenes and the important roles people have in helping the community. This trip was a meaningful extension of our classroom learning. Over the past few weeks, our tamariki have been exploring and learning through our very own “Jones Supermarket” role-play area at kindy. Visiting a real supermarket helped bring this learning to life and gave our tamariki the opportunity to connect their play-based learning with the real world.

A huge thank you to Rebecca and the amazing Woolworths Bridge Street team for their warm welcome, kindness, generosity and support. We truly appreciate the time, care and aroha they gave to our tamariki and whānau today.
