For the month of May we focused on anti-bullying bat BestStart Maui Street. Our teachers made some bags with resources for the tamariki to take home and the whole whanau could partake in making some bracelets with motivating quotes or sayings on them. With these bracelets we created a beautiful chain in celebration of no bullying. The outcome was overwhelming, and the families were very creative. We hung the chain in our corridor for the whanau to see each other bracelets. The tamariki had so much fun trying to each find their own link in the chain.

By doing this exercise, our tamariki did not only learn about anti-bullying, they also learned how to care for others, and that words can also hurt someone’s feelings.

On the day the chain was made, we all wore pink as a symbol of anti-bullying. The feedback was very positive and we hope to have such great fun with this initiative again next year.
