ANZAC Day in our community

With ANZAC day approaching we had a variety of activities to help our tamariki at BestStart Stratford learn and be a part of commemorating ANZAC day.

This entire week we shared stories/conversations, art activities,  made ANZAC biscuits and created a wreath from cut out handprints of our tamariki adding red poppies they painted from egg cartons.

Our centre vision is 'To be at the heart of the Learning Community', so of course we wanted to show nga tamariki how OUR community prepares for these commemorations also by going for a walk. We stopped at the War Memorial Hall and the King Edward Park gates to look and show our respect. We finished our walk by visiting our elderly friends at Marire Rest Home who were also doing Anzac Day activities.

At the end of the week, we took our wreath into town, placing it on the commemoration wall.

Our Goal: Helping our tamariki to learn, understand and be a part of learning about what ANZAC Day means. Thank you to those of our Best-Start whanau who also shared with us about 'who' in their family fought in the war.

We will remember them as we teach the next generation to commemorate our Anzacs and how they helped our country.
