Over the last month our nursery tamariki (children) have developed a strong interest in early literacy/communication. The nursery kaiako (teachers) have been responding to this interest by following the lead of our tamariki and providing a range of experiences to explore different ways to be creative and expressive.

The very hungry caterpillar has been a very popular story in the nursery and our tamariki often choose to revisit it throughout the day. Our amazing kaiako Fei Fei has made further resources to support the story, which has made it more interactive for the tamariki as they come and select kai for the caterpillar to eat on his journey as well as revisit the story on their own using our new board story resources.

Following on from our love of the very hungry caterpillar kaiako have been offering the nursery tamariki art experiences that provide them with plenty of opportunities to extend on ideas introduced in the story. Kaikao use this time to introduce and revisit language to further develop tamariki verbal and non - verbal communication skills.

These opportunities have empowered our nursery tamariki to explore and learn new ways to express themselves through creativity, language, stories and most importantly fun.
