BestStart Somerset's Mini Olympics
This term, we brought the excitement of the Olympic Games right to our ECE centre with our very own Mini Olympics! Our tamariki (children) embraced the spirit of friendly competition, teamwork, and physical fitness through a variety of fun and engaging activities. The day was filled with cheers, laughter, and the joy of accomplishing new challenges, all under the watchful and proud eyes of whānau (family) who came to support their little athletes!
Leading up to the Olympics, tamariki practiced diligently for the egg and spoon race, learning focus and balance. On the big day, they showcased their skills in this event, carefully balancing their eggs to the finish line, their sense of accomplishment shining through. The long jump event was equally exciting, with children leaping joyfully into the sandpit, each trying to go further than the last. Another highlight was the sack race.
This race was about doing their best, alongside the joy of participation and encouragement from their peers and families. The sight of the children jumping as hard as they can, with bursts of giggles echoing around the centre, perfectly captured the spirit of our Mini Olympics. BestStart Somerset's Mini Olympics wasn’t just about games; it was a chance for tamariki to feel the support of their centre and whānau. The event was a wonderful reflection of our centre’s philosophy: "Because we care."
Through fun activities and the involvement of whānau, tamariki were able to grow, learn, and thrive, showcasing the importance of caring for both individual wellbeing and the collective spirit of our community. Therefore, fostering confidence, community, and physical development for our tamariki in a supportive environment.
