At BestStart East Tamaki, we understand that starting school is one of the most significant milestones in a child's early years. To help support our tamariki and whānau through this exciting transition, we recently hosted our Set for School Parent Hui, bringing together families, educators, and our local school community for an evening of learning, connection, and collaboration.

We were privileged to welcome the Deputy Principal of Papatoetoe Central School as our special guest speaker. Parents and whānau had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into what children can expect when they begin primary school, as well as practical ways to support their learning, confidence, and wellbeing during this important stage of development. The session also provided a chance for families to ask questions and learn more about the transition-to-school process directly from a school leader.

Our kaiako, Krystel, shared a range of practical strategies and everyday ideas that parents can use at home to foster independence, resilience, and early literacy and numeracy skills. These discussions highlighted the important role that strong partnerships between home, early childhood education, and school play in supporting successful learning outcomes for children.

The evening concluded with shared kai and meaningful conversations, creating opportunities for families to connect with one another and strengthen their sense of belonging within our centre community. It was wonderful to see parents exchanging experiences, sharing ideas, and building relationships that will continue to support their children throughout their educational journey.

At BestStart East Tamaki, we believe that every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and excited as they take their next steps into school. Events such as our Set for School Parent Hui reflect our commitment to working in partnership with whānau and the wider community to ensure children are well prepared for future success.

Together, we are creating strong foundations for lifelong learning and helping our tamariki approach their school journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
