TopKids Avondale recently celebrated Chinese New Year the best way they know how!  Our tamariki have such a passion for cooking, baking and learning about culture, so we began our Chinese New Year Celebrations with preparing Kai for all to enjoy!  Each room made plans to celebrate this special occasion, our Huia room celebrated by dressing up in cultural attire and making delicious Fried Rice.  Piha tamariki celebrated by creating beautiful lanterns and our Karekare tamariki prepared a feast for all to enjoy. Parents and whanau were welcomed to participate in our celebrations and supported us through our creations and preparation of kai while sharing invaluable knowledge of their cultural heritage.

Chinese New Year celebrations supported our tamariki to continue developing their knowledge and interests around their own and others culture.  They experienced new learning around the Chinese culture and celebrations through participating in these wonderful experiences.  Tamariki showed kindness and support towards one another as they worked together, there was a sense of pride and self-confidence from our learners as they began to make sense of their own and other’s cultures.  There were wonderful connections heard where tamariki were sharing stories with each other around Chinese New Year events within their local communities and homes.  We thoroughly enjoyed our celebrations and embracing the Chinese culture.  We were very proud to see our tamariki and parent whanau be so involved.  Kai Pai TopKids Avondale.

TopKids Avondale is a very diverse centre, celebrating both tamariki, whanau and kaiako’s cultural heritages and family values.  We provide experiences that reflect aroha and mana for each child’s unique identity, building their sense of belonging in their home away from home.
