During Chinese New Year, our tamariki got to learn about this beautiful culture through art, literacy, music, language, and some yummy kai made by our kaiako.
We admire our tamariki's cultures and value who they are as learners, showing them ways of those in our centre and in our community with great respect.
We had a focus on Nature and Science as one of our holiday programme and through this, we had one of our lovely families bring in some beautiful flowers and a 'giant dragonfly' (kapokapo). We made some head garments with flowers, discussed the beautiful colours and learnt about planting, the natural elements that provide care and aroha for our environment.
We did some research on the 'giant dragonfly', and discovered a historic Māori story about how the kapokapo helped a chief and people of Rotorua. Our tamariki enjoyed learning about this and understood how nature looks after us, and how we should nurutre the natural environment.
This has been a great way to work in partnership with whānau and learn with our tamariki about how much the classroom and natural environment can cater to our needs of knowledge.
