At BestStart Montessori Rongotai, we believe that every child brings a unique story, language, and cultural identity into our learning community.
This week, we have been celebrating our Multicultural Week, embracing the rich diversity that makes our centre such a special place.
Throughout the week, tamariki have had opportunities to explore traditions from different countries and cultures. Together, we have learnt how to greet one another in a variety of languages, shared stories about family traditions, discovered cultural celebrations, and enjoyed experiences that helped us appreciate both our similarities and our differences.
These experiences reflect one of our philosophy:
Whakawhanaungatanga – Relationships. We encourage children to develop an understanding of the wider world, fostering empathy, curiosity, and a genuine appreciation for diversity. Through meaningful, hands-on experiences, children begin to recognise that every culture has something valuable to contribute to our community. By learning simple greetings from different languages, tamariki are not only building communication skills but also developing a sense of belonging and respect for the identities of others. They are discovering that while people may speak different languages, celebrate different traditions, or come from different parts of the world, we can all learn from one another with kindness and openness.
At BestStart Montessori Ronogtai, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child and whānau feels seen, valued, and celebrated. Events such as Multicultural Week help us nurture global citizens who are confident in who they are and respectful of the diverse world around them. We would like to thank our whānau for sharing their cultures, experiences, and traditions with us.
Together, we are creating a learning community that celebrates diversity and strengthens connections.
"The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind." – Maria Montessori What a wonderful week of learning, sharing, and celebrating together!
