Our recent celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week was a vibrant and fun-filled journey for our tamariki as they explored this beautiful culture of Aotearoa.
Throughout the week, our children were immersed in learning te reo Māori through a wide range of engaging activities. They explored colours, numbers, shapes, expressions, and songs in te reo Māori.
Learning waiata helped tamariki remember new words and sentence structures. Art projects featured traditional Māori patterns, especially the meaningful koru design. Children also created collage mats, embracing Māori-inspired textures and symbolism.
Through exploring facial expressions, tamariki were able to connect emotions with te reo vocabulary and portray each feeling with confidence.
These activities not only strengthened the children’s understanding of te reo Māori but also deepened their connection with Aotearoa’s rich culture and heritage. Ka mau te wehi, tamariki mā – what an awesome effort from everyone!
Let’s continue to celebrate and uplift te reo Māori every day as part of our routine. Kia kaha te reo Māori!
