Celebrating Pride Month

Last week, we celebrated pride month during our Rainbow Day here at BestStart Milson Line. The tamariki and kaiako all dressed up in the brightest colours of the rainbow to show our support for the pride community! We also created an awesome piece of artwork by using rainbow sponges and pride stickers.

The tamariki each had their own sponge and dipped it in the rainbow colours of paint. As they all pressed the rainbow sponges into the canvas their eyes lit up as they recognised the shape of the rainbow that had been transferred to their artwork. The tamariki explored the different textures the sponges made when they used them in different ways. The tamariki were able to express themselves and their feelings through the new materials and create new experiences with the paint. Tamariki loved to get in there with their hands and spread the paint out, really feeling the paint in between their fingers. They also loved the new resources of the sponges and liked mixing all the rainbow colours together to make a new colour. They all took turns dipping their sponges in the paint so everyone had a fair turn.

After the paint had dried, they got to work with the pride stickers. They got to choose which sticker went where and were very proud of their choices. I could see the sense of accomplishment on their faces. We all worked as a team to cover the entire canvas. Ka pai everyone on creating such an awesome piece of art!
