On the 28th of June 2019, BestStart Harrison celebrated Puanga (the Maori New Year). As part of our celebration this year; throughout our centre the children enjoyed many activities symbolising and representing Puanga such as paintings, collage making, glitter and paper weaving. Through these activities each room was able to create special wall displays dedicated to Puanga.

In each room we displayed a wishing tree and all our whanau were asked to write down what their hopes, dreams and aspirations were for the new year. Our preschool children in the Te Awa Community Kindy prepared a special performance to celebrate Puanga. They shared this with their whanau and the rest of the centre who came along to be part of this beautiful time. All the children were beautiful and did such a great job. To finish our celebration the centre came together for kai in the Koru Room (infant room), the teaching team prepared nachos and macaroni and cheese.

It was a special and beautiful day at BestStart Harrison, we all enjoyed our day and we look forward to next year.

Nga Mihi kia koutou katoa.
