Talofa Lava!

As part of Samoan language week (Sunday 26 May to Saturday 1 June) celebrations, we were lucky enough to have one of our Mums (Raquela) come into the centre to help us celebrate and teach us how to Siva (Samoan dance) while singing Samoan songs.  Raquela lived in Samoa for a few years so has knowledge on the culture and language.

Raquela came dressed in a traditional Samoan outfit, the children in the under twos rooms were in awe of the outfit, siva & colourful 'ulas' (flower necklaces).

The tamaiti (children) in our older rooms listened intently to a Samoan Legend about Masina (the moon).  Then Raquela taught them how to siva and also a couple of new songs. Some of our tamaiti were really good at the Siva - perhaps they have done it before?

We really enjoyed having Raquela come into our centre and share her knowledge about Samoa with us. Fa'afetai Raquela.

We love that we have such great relationships with our parents and can't wait to see more of our parents come in and celebrate our next event with us - Matariki!
