Chun Jie Kuai Le, Happy Chinese New Year!
Here in our Rotoiti room, our 3-year-old children had the chance to create some amazing horses for the Chinese New Year, year of the Horse.
The time, effort and planning put into this from both the teaching team and our amazing children have created a masterpiece of colour, symbols, abstract creations and our children seeing things by placing their own ideas on their masterpiece.
The teaching team had created various parts of a horse and put them on display. All the parts were separated on the table so that the children could create their own masterpiece. Allowing them to create their own masterpiece gives them a chance to use their simple maths skills, matching and sorting, independence and confidence, (feeling proud of their achievements), Language and communication, (learning new names for things), and creative expression to express their feelings and thoughts through art.
Allowing children to take control of their creations also allows creativity and problem-solving to strengthen over time. Arts and crafts at any age help to shape our thinking of what things look like and can be for us in the real world.
BestStart also has a Set for School programme that features arts and crafts, as this is something that aligns with our New Zealand School Curriculum.
Come and see our arts and crafts in motion and how they link to our Set for School programme.
