Farewell the Rat and welcome in the Year of the OX! In BestStart Dannemora, we embraced the opportunity to respect the diversity and learn another culture.

We decorated our center with red lanterns and couplets to create a festive look. Through exploring various activities, making lanterns/fans, experiencing peach tree painting, taking part in the gifting of the red envelope traditions, and enjoying dances performed by our local Chinese community, we brought the Chinese culture into life. Big thanks to our amazing parents who love to get involved to share the new year traditions and teach us how to make dumplings.

There are always so many traditions in the festival which always can offer great opportunities to extend children’s knowledge and understanding about the world. In BestStart Dannemora, we are supporting children develop such understandings through the context of real-life experiences so that they can be remembered. This time, it is not only the children learn so much from the activities and experiences, but the teachers too.
