Chinese New Year Celebrations at First Steps Onslow
For the last few weeks in Senior Kindy, we have been learning all about the celebration of Chinese New Year. We have had a colourful display in the classroom, the children have contributed to the creation of a fantastic decorative dragon and have made paper lanterns too!
We have also been reading books about Chinese New Year at mat time and exploring all about the Chinese culture. The children have been practising some simple words and phrases in Mandarin.
On Chinese New Year (February 5) we made dumplings together as a class for morning tea to celebrate - the children had a lovely time learning all about the different vegetables, preparing the filling and then making their dumpling and taking turns to cook their dumpling in the pan. These were delicious!
