Our centre whanau and community joined us in celebrating Matariki in our special BestStart Hastings Central way.

We began by having a kanikani and some relaxed catch up korero with each other. The teachers had set up a planting experience where each interested person was able to fill a bio-degradable container with soil, choose from sunflower seeds (which our tamariki had grown and harvested), succulent plants from our garden and some rosemary cuttings also from our garden. The tamariki showed a strong interest and were very proud of their sown garden.

After everyone had the opportunity to plant something we all sat down for some nice hot soup (which the tamariki helped to make) and buns. With all settled down for kai we drew our balance bike raffle and the winner proudly took his bike home to show his siblings. We then returned to kanikani some more.
