Last week at BestStart Jones Crescent Kindy, we commemorated ANZAC Day in our own warm and meaningful way.
Throughout the week at mat time, our tamariki were introduced to the story of ANZAC and began learning about the meaning behind each letter.
We also learned the ANZAC song with actions, which quickly became a special part of our daily mat time. It was so lovely to see our little learners joining in with the words, actions, and shared conversations as they explored this important part of our wider community in a way that was meaningful and age-appropriate for them.
To make the learning even more special, on Friday our tamariki created their own beautiful poppy flowers. Each poppy was made with so much care and pride, and it was wonderful to see tamariki expressing their learning through art and creativity. Alongside this, we also baked yummy ANZAC biscuits together, which brought another layer of hands-on learning and excitement to the experience. Tamariki loved helping, mixing, and seeing the biscuits come together.
It was such a heartwarming week filled with storytelling, singing, creating, baking, and shared learning. Moments like these remind us how meaningful community learning can be, even for our youngest tamariki, as they begin to grow their understanding of remembrance, respect, and connection.
