Today we were very fortunate to welcome St John into our centre, with community helper Wye spending time with our tamariki to learn about emergency awareness and first aid.

Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and play-based learning, the children learnt who to call in an emergency, why it’s important to ask an adult for help, and how they can care for others by bandaging a friend.

Wye made the learning fun and meaningful through games in the sandpit, role play, and interactive activities, giving children opportunities to practise their new skills. The session was filled with laughter, curiosity, and confidence-building moments as tamariki eagerly participated and asked thoughtful questions.

To finish, we enjoyed learning new songs that reinforced key safety messages in a fun and memorable way. Experiences like this support children to build confidence, develop empathy, and strengthen their understanding of safety within their community.

We shared this learning on Storypark, and our whānau were delighted to see the amazing volunteer work our community provides for our tamariki. A big thank you to St John and Wye for such a valuable and enjoyable learning experience.
