This winter season, as part of our school holiday programme, our hallway was transformed into a magical lineup of snowmen!

Each one was crafted with love, imagination, and a whole lot of teamwork by our four rooms; Koru (Under 2s), Kōwhai (2-year-olds), Matai (3-year-olds) and Tōtara (4-year-olds)

Using cardboard boxes as the base, each room set out to build their own snowman. But these weren’t just any snowmen—they were bursting with personality!

From scarves and milk bottle smiles to carrot noses and paper plate buttons, cotton wool and fairy lights, every snowman told a story. The result? Four completely different snowmen, each reflecting the spirit of the room that created it.

What made this project truly special was the way it brought children and teachers together, with a little bit of healthy competition! Each room worked as a team—sharing ideas, dividing tasks, and encouraging one another. Some children painted the boxes, others glued decorations, and everyone had a role to play. It was a wonderful opportunity for the tamariki to practice cooperation, communication, and problem-solving in a fun and engaging way.

Proudly displayed in the hallway, the snowmen are a delightful surprise for parents and an exciting conversation starter for tamariki to share with whānau. As they arrived and departed each day, they were greeted by these cheerful creations—a reminder of the imagination and teamwork happening inside our rooms.

It’s a moment of connection, where children can point out their work and share stories about how their snowman came to life.
