During the month of February, we welcomed back all the children from their holiday. We have been celebrating lots of different things this month with lots of events happening – We celebrated Kahu’s birthday, Waitangi Day, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s day, Big Heart Day and we celebrated and farewelled some of our friends that have turned 3 and transitioned to the Pre School room.

Transportation and creativity have been our main interests during this month. We enjoyed playing with the trains and cars. Putting the pieces of a wooden train requires hand and eye coordination along with the fine motor skills. It also teaches children problem solving, patience, trial and error by trying to figure out to join the tracks together. They also learn that there are multiple ways of solving a problem as they join the pieces of the track in various ways. Playing with cars also teaches them to work together, learning about the wheel rotation, hand and eye coordination and their imagination.

Some of our children enjoyed being creative as they had fun with arts and crafts experiences. Arts and crafts is an awesome way for the children to explore through their senses and express themselves through a variety of mediums, they also develop their fine motor skills as these are the skills they need for drawing, writing, tying their shoelaces and using a knife and fork.  They also learn to develop their communication and social skills by talking to their friends and teachers. We are looking forward for to see what March brings for us!
