Last week Thursday we held the first of what we hope will become an annual fundraiser event "Beststart Onehunga's cultural evening".

We wanted to create an evening/afternoon that brought our whanau together to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures that makes up Beststart Onehunga.

Te Papapa Primary's junior kapa haka group opened up our evening with a spectacular performance, it was lovely to see some our past students perform within the group.

Then we had a group of our Japanese whanau perform a Japanese song and dance, they also so kindly held a small Origami workshop. Where children were able to come and sit down with their whanau and create a piece of Origami art to take home. Our last guest was one of lovely teachers Maree's daughter Payten who did a beautiful Samoan solo dance. After our performances from our guests, we had some yummy multicultural food for sale, so whanau could buy some delicious kai to enjoy while they sat down and socialised with the other whanau and children.

All the funds from the kai that was for sale went into our fundraising account for our children's end of year Christmas celebration. Overall it was such a magical night and were we so grateful that many of our wonderful whanau came out to join and support us.
