Developing Independence at BestStart Roydvale
Currently in our Kakano (under 2’s) room we have noticed the tamariki are growing in independence as they become more involved with helping in different roles throughout the day. It has been wonderful to see the tamariki taking responsibility for their environment through helping with picking up their toys, sweeping outside and caring for their peers.
To extend on this interest and encourage confidence as well as giving them a sense of achievement we have been giving the tamariki opportunities to help choose and create their own messy play experiences. We have also been encouraging their independence through washing their own hands before kai, clearing their plate and drink bottle after eating and getting undressed before bed.
