Discovery Time at Temuka Primary

Today eight children and two teachers set off to Temuka Primary school for discovery time. We are very lucky to be situated in walking distance to multiple primary schools in our area. We had lots of fun testing our physical skills in the bigger playground, exploring new activities, talking to the kaiako (teachers) and catching up with some old friends from preschool. The tamariki (children) were very respectful of all the resources in the classroom and put everything back where they found it. After all that exploring, we were invited to sit on the steps and have our morning kai, alongside the older tamariki (children). When we are walking to and from the school, it is lovely to hear children pointing out relative's homes and sharing this knowledge with their peers.
We value these walks to the primary school because they support children in their transition to school. Children and teachers get to catch up with children who have already transitioned to school, and children are supported to maintain relationships with peers who have moved on to school before them. We are looking forward to our next visit.
