Last month, BestStart Ferry Road came alive with colours, lights, and joy as we celebrated Diwali – the Festival of Lights, a special occasion cherished by our Indian families.
The celebration was a wonderful opportunity for our centre to embrace cultural diversity and strengthen our sense of community.
In preparation for the event, the children enthusiastically engaged in creative activities, making beautiful artworks such as fireworks paintings, rangoli patterns, and diya decorations. These vibrant creations were proudly displayed in the classroom, allowing parents to admire the children’s efforts and creativity.
During the event, our learning spaces were transformed into a festive atmosphere filled with art, laughter, and delicious aromas. Tables were set up with art and craft activities for tamariki and whānau to enjoy together, encouraging hands-on participation and connection.
A variety of foods were prepared by the centre, and some families generously shared traditional homemade dishes, bringing a true taste of Indian culture to everyone. We also dedicated a prayer room, offering families a quiet space for reflection and worship.
Overall, the celebration was a fantastic success—bringing together families, teachers, and children in the spirit of unity, respect, and cultural appreciation. Events like this remind us of the beauty in our differences and the importance of celebrating every culture within our BestStart community.
