Embracing Samoan Language Week at BestStart Wattle Downs Centre" Talofa lava! Happy Samoan Language Week! Our fanau (children), Matua (parents) , and Faiaoga celebrated Samoan Language Week on May 31, 2024 at the centre. This celebration is very important for our centre as it embraces our philosophy of "Nurture".

We believe in fostering a nurturing environment where each child is valued and respected, and their unique identities are celebrated. Our centre values of Aroha, Respect, Trust and Diversity are woven seamlessly into what we do. We envision an inspiring centre that stand out, where we cultivate colourful creative cultures within a collaborative community. Today, we ddresed in traditional clothes, and our lovely kaiako shared traditional dances, singing, implementing some simple Samoan words to our Litte Tui room fanau and shared traditional Samoan food.

The faiaoga in Pukeko room related the story of Sina and the Eel to their fanau. In the Samoan language the legend is called Sina ma le Tuna. Tuna is the Samoan word for 'eel'. The story is also well known among all the Polynesian culture. The fanau also enjoy the tapa cloth pattern learning experience and were delighted to explore different patterns through colouring activities. Fa'afetai (Thank you).
