At BestStart Te Atatū Road, our infant outdoor space has been transformed a new dawn for our tamariki and whānau. Inspired by the meaning of Te Atatū, “the dawn,” our beautiful environment welcomes each new day as a fresh beginning, full of hope and potential. Our new turf creates a safe, soft pārekareka (playground) where our pēpi can explore, learn, and feel grounded strengthening their tūrangawaewae, their sense of belonging.
Our extended sandpit offers endless opportunities for sensory play, discovery, and kotahitanga (togetherness), while our whare iti invites tamariki to imagine, connect, and care for each other. The sensory footpath is a journey across different textures, encouraging our children to be curious and deepen their connection to Papatuānuku under their feet.
A new māra (garden) now sits at the heart of our space, supporting kaitiakitanga our shared guardianship of the living world. Tamariki help care for the plants, learn about growth, and develop aroha for nature.
We welcome whānau to visit, to share in this special place where manaaki, play, and whanaungatanga grow every day. Our renewed outdoor space is more than a playground; it’s a living, breathing place for our youngest tamariki to thrive, guided by Te Ao Māori.
