At BestStart Vivian Street, our vision is: “What matters to your family, matters to us.”

This guides everything we do, especially when planning excursions that connect tamariki with their wider world. Excursions are a vital part of our curriculum, offering tamariki real-world experiences that support our learning priorities and align with Te Whāriki.

Through visits to places like Pukeariki, Heatherlea, community events, bus trips, and local performances, tamariki build a strong sense of belonging and connection. At Heatherlea, our children spend time with elderly residents, sharing stories and laughter.

These intergenerational moments foster empathy, communication, and respect—key aspects of Belonging (Mana Whenua) and Contribution (Mana Tangata), strands of Te Whāriki, our early childhood curriculum. Our trips to local performances and community events spark creativity and curiosity.

Children engage with storytelling, music, and drama, expanding their understanding of culture and expression in fun, interactive ways. Excursions to Puke Ariki encourage exploration and inquiry, while bus trips become adventures filled with observation and conversation. Each outing is thoughtfully planned to support children’s learning and development, helping them make meaningful connections with people, places, and things in their world.

These experiences are more than just outings—they are intentional learning journeys that reflect our commitment to nurturing confident, connected learners.
