In the Toddler room here at BestStart Lytton, we have noticed a large number of children showing a developing interest in exploration and this is but a snippet of us in our element!

Us toddlers love gloop and in the photo’s you can see the pure wonder, awe and curiosity in our little explorers faces! For some of our newer transitioners this was their first time exploring this slimy substance and for some of our tuakana they were a little more experienced, so they were able to demonstrate and role model just how exactly to get “stuck in”.

Tamariki spent extended amounts of times squeezing, squishing and splashing their hands around the trough lid and to their excitement, exploring all senses, touch/feel, smell, look and yes, you guessed it… even taste!

What we as Kaiako appreciate about a play based curriculum is that learning varies between each tamaiti and while some indeed extended on their exploration skills, some were working on their language/communication, problem solving, social skills and working theories as well.

Ka pai tamariki ma!
