Following on from our child-led inquiry last term, where tamariki explored the solar system and learned about the planets, their curiosity has now led us to discover more about Earth, our home. This has grown into our new inquiry, Ko Wai Au? – Who Am I?
Through this learning, tamariki are exploring where they come from, learning about different countries around the world, discovering where their friends and whānau come from, and understanding where we are located here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
As part of this inquiry, we have created a Pepeha Wall, which many of you may have already noticed within our learning environment. The wall provides opportunities for tamariki to share their connections to people, places, and the wider world while learning about the rich diversity of cultures represented within our Pipiwai Kindy whānau.
Our exploration of identity and culture has sparked many meaningful conversations about languages, traditions, celebrations, and customs from around the world. We would love to continue building on this learning with support from our whānau.
Whether it is cultural clothing, music, dance, weaving, poi making, stories, language, family traditions, or special celebrations, we would love to hear from you.
Recently, we were excited to have Boadicea share traditional clothing from Thailand, which created wonderful opportunities for learning, discussion, and cultural appreciation.
Experiences such as these help children develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others while fostering a genuine appreciation for diversity.
