At BestStart Waikanae, we believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door.

Our tamariki thrive when they’re connected to their community and natural environment, and we’re proud to offer enriching experiences that foster both.

Our regular visits to a local rest home bring joy to both our tamariki and the residents. Through waiata, dance, and shared smiles, our children build empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging. These intergenerational connections are truly special and create lasting memories for everyone involved.

Our older tamariki also enjoy bushwalks at Hemi Matenga. These adventures build resilience, self-confidence, and physical strength—key skills in our Set for School framework. As they explore the ngahere, our tamariki are developing a deep connection to the land and learning what it means to be kaitiaki of Aotearoa’s natural treasures. In our Pīwakawaka room, our youngest learners are busy discovering the world through sensory play, storytelling, water play, and motor skill activities.

Excursions to Elizabeth Rose Park, joined by whānau, gives our tamariki the chance to explore their wider community and enjoy the benefits of outdoor play. At BestStart Waikanae, we’re proud to offer meaningful, real-world experiences that support holistic development and prepare tamariki for a bright future. Come and see how we connect learning with life!
