In our preschool room, children’s curiosity and creativity shine the brightest when they are exploring the world of transportation.
We have noticed how much they love playing with trucks, cars, and diggers in the sandpit—pushing, pulling, and building their own little roadworks and construction sites.
To extend this interest, we planned a range of engaging activities that connected to the children’s play and imagination. One of the highlights was when the children painted large boxes in different colours to create a train.
As they worked together, they not only practised their fine motor skills through painting and building but also learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Also, we had a very special visit from the local police officer and St. John ambulance team at our centre.
Children were fascinated by the police uniform, enjoyed hearing the sounds on the radio, and especially loved listening to the police car siren. Through these rich experiences, children are developing not only their knowledge of transportation and community helpers, but also their language, social skills, and sense of belonging.
They are learning to ask questions, share ideas, and connect their play to the wider world around them.
