The tamariki at Best Start Kawaha Point were fortunate to receive a visit from Annette, a Primary school Educator from St John Ambulance.

Annette arrived with a bag full of intersteing and engaging items, which immediately caprured the children's attention and curiosity.

The tamariki were eager to share their existing knowledge about injuries, broken limbs, and the sound of an ambulance siren. Annette shared an informative story supported by photos, helping the children to understand the important role ambulance services play in keeping people safe and healthy in the community.

The highlight of the visit was exploring the equipment Annette brought along. Tamariki enjoyed seeing and touching items such as high-vis vests, a helmet and a stethoscope. Each child took turns trying on the helmet and discovering how heavy it was, as well as listening to their friends' heartbeats. This hands-on experience encouraged turn-taking, observation and conversation.

Community experiences are a regular part of our programme at Best start Kawaha Point. Through visits from services such as ambulance, police, fire service, dental hygienists and hearing and vision teams, tamariki learn about keeping themselves safe and healthy while developing confidence, understanding and connections within their local community.

Thank you, Annette, for spending time with our tamariki and sharing your knowledge in such a fun and friendly way.
