Here at Parau Drive we were very lucky to be gifted some sunflower seeds by a member of our community.
Our Tamariki were very excited to plant the seeds and have been very invested in taking care of them, watering them and making sure they get plenty of sun.
As they grew, we decided to plant them along our fence line. We would head down in the evenings with our watering cans and carefully water our sunflowers.
The Tamariki were very excited as they noticed the flower heads starting to open and the yellow petals started to show through, showing their families the flowers that they had helped to grow. We picked one of our big sunflowers for the children to take their picture with for Valentine's Day.
Young children are fascinated with the natural world. Tiny seeds are a great way to improve fine motor skills. Hard work in a children’s garden teaches a sense of responsibility, gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and working on common goals.
Outdoor activities are great for physical & mental health and stimulates a child’s development. Children of all ages enjoy quality time in a garden setting. It’s a great opportunity to expose them to different textures, and amazing flower scents, and teach them life lessons through experiential learning.
